Pentecost Sunday “C” year (2019)

Peace

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” then he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Jn 20, 19-23

Messenger of Peace

Motto:  “Peace be with you.” – With these very words we begin every mass: Peace from God, our Father, and Jesus Christ, our Lord. PEACE BE WITH YOU – these were the words the risen Christ used to greet the disciples when he entered the room they were. Sure enough, their hearts were full of distress. Peacefulness and the peace of the soul are the precondition that the restless heart can receive God. This peace can only come from God and only Jesus is able to mediate that peace. It is that peace, which is necessary for the disciples to recognize Jesus. This gives meaning to the gesture of showing His wounds. This gift of peace opened their hearts first for receptiveness, then for the preaching of the gospel and for mission. How could Jesus have sent them out on mission with a restless heart? This is still true today. Whenever we step into the house of God, when we celebrate the wounds and the resurrection in the Eucharist, we ask again and again for this peace. When we step out into the world, we take this peace with us into the world. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Peace and our mission is Peace.
